1. We provide training in the skill areas identified as being short of qualified professionals.

Such areas identified by Australian government research include garment specification, grading and pattern making. We also offer support and business mentoring for students after graduation. Our teachers are available to support students with advice and information as they enter the workforce as well as providing commercial services for pattern making to assist students with their first collections.

2. We teach the real-world skills that small business people need to succeed in the market.

Our training suits people who want to start their own business or launch their own label. The small business component of our program recognises the reality of the fashion industry in Australia and supports the large numbers of students who want the freedom to work at home or as a freelancer.

3. All skill levels are accepted and we train students to a high level of competency.

We believe that passion and enthusiasm are the essential ingredients for students and that specific skills can be acquired through practice and application. Our programs are designed to progress at the pace of the learner, so all skill levels are given the support to maximise their potential.

4. Our class sizes are small and our teachers are industry experts.

With a maximum of ten students per class, we're small enough to have personal contact with all our students and better direct them with their individual learning and endeavours. Our teachers have experience in business, couture boutiques and workrooms, industrial pattern making and machining techniques, so you'll learn from experts.

5. We offer flexible, face-to-face learning including evening and Saturday classes.

We recognise that face-to-face study is important and that students have work and family commitments, so we offer flexible part-time, evening and Saturday study options.

6. We teach European draping for advanced tailoring, eveningwear and bridal couture.

Draping is a 3D design process using a dress form. This technique enables the designer to place colour, pattern and design details as they will look on the finished garment. 

7. We teach pattern making and fitting on real people, not just block sizes.

A block is a base garment made to a standardised size used to draft patterns. Real people have fitting issues that require skill and knowledge if garments are to be altered to fit. Experience with real people means that our design students are aware of body type and fitting issues and can apply this knowledge to target niche markets.

8. Our classes use StyleCAD, a professional automated software program for pattern making.

Using software programs to produce patterns requires a different set of skills and protocols to be efficient and cost-effective. Our students receive a grounding in both manual and software based pattern making skills.

9. We offer short courses at a professional level so students with experience can hone their skills.

This allows students to select the study area they would like to specialise in or brush up skills to enhance employment and promotional opportunities. We also offer tailoring classes using traditional Savile Row bespoke techniques.

10. Our classes are open to dressmakers and students who want to sew for themselves.

This enables competent sewers to improve their skills to a professional level while creating a library of personal patterns. Our philosophy is to promote the skills of design and sewing to both the professional and non-professional student, allowing both groups to make quality fitted garments for their figure type.
